It is not only impor­tant for Imy Wax & Asso­ciates to under­stand the emo­tional unrest that has led the fam­ily to call. It is equally impor­tant to under­stand the indi­vid­ual needs and goals that will lead to suc­cess.


Imy Wax and her col­leagues have exten­sive under­stand­ing of clin­i­cal and neu­ro­bi­o­log­i­cal issues. As part of the process of under­stand­ing the client, they will be ask­ing to see the last updated psy­cho­log­i­cal and/or psycho-educational test­ing, ask to be given per­mis­sion to speak to pro­fes­sion­als who have known the stu­dent, and ask to see any edu­ca­tional doc­u­ments. Each young per­son has his or her own spe­cific needs that must be deter­mined in detail before place­ment can be made. Included is the need to under­stand the expec­ta­tions and aspi­ra­tions related to aca­d­e­mic inter­ests and tal­ents of the stu­dent. Our goal is to help fam­i­lies develop a knowl­edge base that will give them the con­fi­dence to make the best place­ment for their stu­dent.


We have vis­ited numer­ous envi­ron­ments avail­able to chil­dren as young as six years old through post ado­les­cent years. Chil­dren of var­i­ous ages who are “act­ing out” may appear very sim­i­lar, but a well trained con­sul­tant can help to “tease” out the pos­si­ble under­ly­ing roots of the behav­ior. This advan­tage helps to find the best suit­able placement.
